As an artist Lauren’s passion is putting onto canvas her life experiences as a girl living in the deep South and all the simple beauty that abounds there. Lauren is a born and raised Mississippi delta girl and although she now resides in Brentwood, Tennessee with her husband and 2 boys she still feels the presence of that heritage. It’s a heritage full of soul and colorful layers and a culture that’s as rich as the fertile delta soil. Now, as an artist living on the outskirts of Nashville, TN, there’s a new connection to this area and this Tennessee landscape. It’s hills and valleys are in stark contrast to the flat delta land but it’s essence and people are so very similar.
A palette knife is Lauren’s tool of choice and she uses it to create layers upon layers of colored paints. Lauren’s process is one that typically doesn’t have a color scheme in mind at the beginning…it’s a rather organic experience that just evolves as each color is applied. She applies several layers of paint in order to achieve the desired outcome of a loose representation of the subject matter. Lauren’s paintings have an aged, “chippy” look to them representative of generations past. In the South, buildings have such character and depth and they allude to past, vibrant lives. Lauren paints churches, old buildings, landscapes, animals, and flowers, but they all have one central theme…the Southern soul.
Lauren’s work has been featured several times in HGTV’s Hometown and HGTV’s Property Brothers as well as Traditional Home Magazine, The Cottage Journal Magazine, Nashville Magazine and other publications. Her work can be seen at laurendunn.co, instagram.com/laurendunnartist, facebook.com/laurendunndesigns and various galleries and shops throughout the southeast.
